Lauren Lloyd

I am a painter and aspiring photographer from London. I’ve drawn and painted all of my life. A lot of my work is inspired by the natural environment and the threats we face today, be it from pollution or habitat loss and destruction. When it comes to my photography I really find beauty in unexpected places; barren landscapes, decayed objects, abandoned buildings. For me there is a beauty in the places and things we left behind. A beautiful sadness maybe. I seek to capture that slight darkness in my photography and sometimes in my paintings, I like to capture something of the darkness of the human psyche. That is one of the reasons I enjoy taking photos of people. I feel that  black and white photography captures this darkness in a way that coloured photography often cannot, and black and white photography is a passion of mine.  I think I have always been fascinated by the human psyche, and the human ego, and the workings of the human mind, especially the parts that people hide. And sometimes that comes out in my paintings, unconsciously even.  I really enjoy working with my hands and creating work that makes people question and think, or wakes people up to important issues. I think if art doesn’t educate, fascinate or stimulate then it serves no purpose at all.
